Let’s talk about bigger boxes and more freedom. My journey has been one of increasing levels of freedom. I think that should be the journey for every person who claims to be aware of what Jesus did for us and Papa’s love and His involvement in their lives. If we are honest though each new level of freedom can be just a bigger box. Because what seemed like freedom a year ago may seem like a prison today. If an inmate has been in solitary for a long time, the prison yard and the sunshine and fresh air would seem like freedom to them, for a while. I think many people end up settling for a certain size box that they get comfortable with. If the box is big enough that you cannot see the walls from where you are, it will seem like you are completely free. And so you stay there, content in your perceived freedom, not realizing there is so much more freedom than you can imagine. You just need to keep moving. But as soon as you reach a new level of freedom, immediately there are those waiting to tell you “You have arrived now!” “No need to look further!” “Run and play, but don’t run too far, stay in our sight.” “Enjoy this freedom, but be careful, there are ditches to fall into.” “Hey buddy, you are getting a little too far away, we can’t see you any more and if we can’t see you we can’t keep you safe. We just don’t want to see you get hurt.” Then you see there is another wall. You begin to walk towards it. Those people start to get afraid. “Hey son, stay away from that wall. There are wolves on the other side.” “Now son we told you to stay away from that wall. Come back here and enjoy your freedom. Isn’t this enough freedom for you?” “Son if you keep being curious about that wall we may have to restrain you. We don’t want to, but you are on dangerous ground. Come back away from the wall and be free!” You continue to pursue more freedom. You realize that what seemed like freedom was just less restriction, but it had limits. Those people try to restrain you physically. They threaten. But in the end they have no real power. They never did. And that wall? It was an illusion. It was all in your mind. As is the next wall. And the next. Until you no longer see any more walls. And those voices fade away. And you are truly free!
